What we’ve done: take recommendations from trusted friends, family, collegues and community. Narrow it down to 3 or 4 you want to interview. Ask each to bring and activity list and references (and let them know that you’ll be interviewing a couple of people.) The activity list lets you know what they’ve done recently (do they handle houses in the price range you want to buy/sell? do they know your neighbourhoods and area?) and ask them a few questions about their philosophy of selling. After talking to a few, you should get a clear idea of who is a good communicator, a good negotiator, experienced, educated and prepared to help you (especially if this is the first time you’ve dealt in real estate.) Check references and choose. I am using "HomeBuying for Dummies" and it has been indespensible in helping me with real estate terminiology I didn’t know and preparing me to find a good buying team and making me aware of how complicated house hunting can be. Good luck!
